Brazil's National Film Agency (Ancine) is sponsoring entries of 11 Brazilian films in four international festivals to take place in May. The best-known of these events, France's Cannes Film Festival, will take place between May 17 and 28, screening out three Brazilian productions.

The others festivals are IndieLisboa, which ends today (May 14) in Portugal; the 63rd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in Germany, which runs until May 16; and Cine Politico, on May 25-31 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The sponsorships are part of a fund to support entries of Brazilian films in international festivals, laboratories, and workshops, with grants that may cover subtitling, shipping, and financial support, or one or two of these.

For IndieLisboa, Ancine is supporting the short film Os cuidados que se tem com o cuidado que os outros devem ter consigo mesmos ("The Care One Takes of the Care Others Must Take of Themselves”) by Gustavo Vinagre, which will be screened as part of the Silvestre exhibition. Three short films sponsored by ANCINE's program will be at the main competition of Oberhausen Festival—Elogio da Sombra by Joel Pizzini Filho; Um musical by Tarcísio Lara Puiati, and Vai e Vem by Louise Botkay.

Cannes Film Festival will feature three Brazilian productions funded by ANCINE's program as part of its screenings. Fellipe Barbosa's feature film Gabriel e a Montanha (“Gabriel and the Mountain”) has been shortlisted for the Semaine de la Critique awards, and Gabriel Martins's Nada will be at the Directors' Fortnight. In the Cinefondation exhibition, Brazil will have a presence with Vazio do lado de fora (“Empty on the Outside”) by Eduardo Brandão Pinto.

ANCINE has also helped three Brazilian productions into Argentina's Cine Político. Rodrigo Mac Niven's Olympia 2016 and André Ristum's O Outro Lado do Paraíso (“The Other Side of Paradise”) will be at the international feature film competition, whereas Cartas do Desterro (“Letters from Exile”) by Coraci Ruiz and Julio Matos compete for the international short film award.
