On the day Pernambuco state celebrates Frevo Day (Feb 9), the city of Olinda will be on its second official day of Carnival, with loads of partying and celebration.

Frevo brings joy chiefly to the Carnival of the northeastern state, with its wind orchestra parading down the streets of Pernambuco's main cities—Recife and Olinda. It is a mixture of multiple music and dance styles, capoeira, as well as arts and crafts. Since 2012, frevo has been considered Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The urban music genre gained shape late in the 19th century during Carnival, as a form of popular expression.

Frevo was listed by Brazil's National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) as Brazilian Cultural Heritage in 2007.
