The police of the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul charged on Tuesday (Sep 30) four fans of Grêmio Football Porto Alegrense with racial abuse against Aranha, goalkeeper for Santos Football Club. He was verbally insulted on August 28, at the Grêmio Arena, in the capital city of Porto Alegre, during a Brazil Cup match.
Police Commissioner Cleber Ferreira announced that the indictees were caught in flagrante delicto while calling the football player 'monkey'. Their names are: Patrícia Moreira, Éder de Quadros Braga, Rodrigo Machado Rychter and Fernando Moreira Ascal. Three other people remain unidentified.
Still according to the police, the four fans are being held accountable for the crime of aggravated slander, as laid forth by Article 140, Paragraph 3 from Brazil's Penal Code. One of them will also be charged with theft, as footage shows him stealing the hat from a security guard in an attempt to disguise his appearance.
