The day the European Central Bank (ECB) announced a 1.1 trillion euro stimulus program, the dollar rate in Brazil fell below $2.60 for the first time since December 9. The US dollar closed out Thursday (Jan. 22) selling at R$2.574, down 1.23% (R$0.032), and its lowest currency rate since December 3.

The euro saw an even sharper decline of 4.84%. The European currency closed out selling at R$2.929, falling below R$3 for the first time since September 8. The ECB announced it will inject a monthly 60 billion euros in eurozone countries until September 2016, for a total 1.1 trillion euros in 21 months. With more euros in the economy, euro currency prices are likely to decline globally.
