Brazil cuts 72,600 formal jobs in May

From January to May, 448,011 jobs were already cut

In May, 72,615 formal jobs were cut across the country, according to data of the General Register of the Employed and Unemployed (CAGED) released this Friday (Jun. 24) by the Ministry of Labor. The result confirms the trend in the labor market with more employment dismissal than recruitment. In the period from January to May, 448,011 jobs were shed.

In the past twelve months, the country already axed 1,781,906 formal jobs, equivalent to a 4.34% drop in the contingent formal workforce.

The services sector reported the biggest drop in formal jobs in May 2016, cutting 36,960 jobs. And agriculture sector created the highest number of jobs in the country in May, 43,117 new jobs.

Currently, Brazil has 39,244,949 workers with a formal contract.

Published since 1992, the CAGED reports the number of recruitment and dismissal in formal jobs based on statements submitted by employers to the Ministry of Labor.
