In Brazil, inflation in November is lowest for the month since 1998

Official inflation gauged by the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) was 0.18% in November this year, below the 0.26% reported in the previous month. It is also the lowest rate for the month of November since 1998. 

For the 12-month period, the IPCA registered a rate of 6.99%, well below the 7.87% registered in October, but above the government's target for inflation ceiling of 6.5%. Despite this, it is the lowest rate since December 2014.

The cumulative IPCA rate for the year (January-November) was 5.97%, according to data released today (Dec. 9) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Low-income families

The National Consumer Price Index (INPC), which measures inflation for families with monthly income of up to $476.00, stood at 0.07% in November this year, below the official inflation for the month (0.18%). However, the 12-month cumulative rate for those families reached 7.39%, higher than the cumulative rate of official inflation for the same period (6.99%).
