Petrobras will sell its Pasadena refinery, in the US, and its stake in Petrobras Oil & Gas BV, which controls assets in Africa. The announcement was made today (May 10). The purchase of the refinery has been brought under investigation by the Federal Police as part of its Operation Car Wash.

The state-controlled oil giant reported that sale transactions will be carried out under its $21 billion divestment plan for 2017-2018.

The purchase of the Pasadena oil refinery by Petrobras, in Texas, is under probe by the Federal Police for bid-rigging and the illegal transfer of funds abroad.

In 2006, when the refinery was bought, Brazil's oil firm payed $360 million for 50% of the refinery ($190 million for the documents, and $170 million for the oil in Pasadena). The amount was larger than the one paid a year before by Belgian company Astra Oil for the whole refinery ($42.5 million).
