Brazil's gross domestic product (GDP) was observed to grow 0.6% in the three-month period ending in July this year against the quarter ending in April. Compared to the quarter ending in July 2016, the increase reached 1.1%. The figures come from the GDP Monitor, released Monday (Sep. 18) by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

Taking only July into account, there was a 0.1% hike from the previous month and a 1.3% expansion against July 2016.

As for the 1.1% increase ending in July this year against the same period last year, the highlights were farming and livestock (11.7%), mining (4.5%), manufacturing industry (1.6%), trade (3%), transport (2.4%), and other services (1.5%).

Exports grew 5.7%, driven mostly by farming and livestock goods (8.1%¨) and mining (31.4%). Imports slipped 1.8%, a decline pulled chiefly by the decrease in the purchase of capital goods (-43.8%) by Brazil's productive sector.
