Brazilians’ expenditure abroad up 10.2% in first quarter

The amount was the highest for the period since 2015

The amount of money spent by Brazilians overseas reached $4.932 billion in the first quarter this year. The figures were released Wednesday (Apr. 25) by the Central Bank of Brazil.

Compared to the same period in 2017, when spending is reported to have totaled $4.474 billion, the value is up 10.2%. This was the highest value for a first quarter since that of 2015, when expenditure stood at $5.232 billion.

Revenues left by foreigners added up to $1.932 billion in the first three months of the year, following $1.846 billion reported for the period last year.

March

In March, the amount spend by Brazilians in trips overseas reached $1.524 billion, compared to $1.533 billion in the same month last year. The revenue of foreigners in Brazil, in turn, added up to $544 million, compared to $650 million in March, 2017.

The balance of international travel therefore stood at a negative $980 million in March and $2.998 billion in the first quarter.
