Car maker Ford today (Feb. 19) said it will finish its activities at the plant in São Bernardo do Campo, in São Paulo state. The giant also confirmed it will leave the truck market in South America. In will no longer sell lines Cargo, F-4000, F-350, and Fiesta as soon as stocks are empty.

“Maintaining business would demand a significant amount of investment to meet market needs and the mounting costs with regulatory items with no viable way for profitable and sustainable business,” the firm said in a note.

Ford has three plants in Brazil—Camaçari, in Bahia; São Bernardo do Campo and Taubaté, in São Paulo; and a testing center in Tatuí, São Paulo. The São Bernardo do Campo plant has 2,800 workers, as per figures from the trade union.

“We know that this decision will only have a significant impact on our workers in São Bernardo do Campo, so we will work with our partners in the coming steps,” said Lyle Watters, Ford president in South America.

“Working together with concessionaires and suppliers, Ford will keep providing full support for consumers regarding guarantees, parts, and technical assistance,” he added.
