Creation of formal jobs in Brazil highest for April since 2013

The increase was led by services and the manufacturing industry

Boosted by services and the manufacturing industry, the creation of formal jobs (gap between admissions and dismissals) in Brazil reached the highest level for the month in six years. As per data from the General Register of the Employed and Unemployed (CAGED), put together by the Ministry of Labor, 129,601 formal job posts were created last month.

The last time the indicator surpassed this amount was April 2013. The creation of jobs stands at 313,835 job posts from January to April and 477,896 in the last 12 months.

All eight sector surveyed created formal job posts in April.  Chief among them was services, with 66,290 posts, following by the manufacturing industry (20,470) and construction (14,067).

Employment also rose in agriculture and livestock (13,907), trade (12,291), public administration (1,241), industrial services of public utility (with energy and sanitation, 877), and mining (454).

In Brazil, job creation are usually high in April, as this is when harvests begin and the industry as well as services warm up.

Regions

All Brazilian regions created formal jobs in April. The Southeast came first with 81,106 posts, followed by the Northeast (15,593) and the Central-West, influenced by the crops. The south created 14,570 openings, and the North reported 3,092 more jobs last month.

Twenty-three states generated employment and four fired more than they hired. The most significant positive variations took place in São Paulo (50,168 posts), Minas Gerais (22,348), Paraná (10,653), and Bahia (10,093). The states that saw job posts closed were Alagoas (-4,692), Rio Grande do Sul (-2,498), Rio Grande do Norte (-501), and Pará (-25).
