The Ministry of Health has officially announced that it canceled the temporary licenses of two Cuban doctors who are no longer in the More Doctors Program. They were both registered to work in Medicilândia, State of Pará.

In total, 114 doctors have been terminated from the program, for a total 9,425 participants according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health. They have been allocated to work in 3,241 towns and 32 indigenous districts, serving nearly 33 million Brazilians – which meets over 70% of the demand reported by local authorities.

Introduced in July last year, the program is designed to improve qualifications of primary care physicians, address shortages of doctors in underserved areas of the country and expedite infrastructure investments in hospitals and healthcare facilities.

The program participants are paid monthly training grants of about $4,400 plus a cost-of-living allowance paid by the Ministry of Health. Local governments are responsible for providing meals and accommodation.
