Number of cellular phones in Brazil reaches over 273 million
Most Brazilians still prefer pre-paid services

The number of active cellular phones in Brazil has reached 273.58 million in March this year. According to the National Telecommunications Agency (“Anatel”), 860.21 thousand new phones were introduced last month alone.
Anatel further reports that, in March, there were 153.3 lines for every hundred people. Pre-paid services are still the choice made by the majority (77.57%), post-paid accounts correspond to the remainder 22.23%. Mobile broadband has registered 113.4 million hits, 2.08 million of which from 4G terminals.
As for sections of the market, last month, mobile operator Vivo took the first place, participating with 28.68%; followed by TIM, with 27.02%; Claro, 25.13%; Oi, with 18.49%; and three other companies, with minor representation.
