More than 7,400 people have been impacted by heavy rains in the state of Santa Catarina, South Brazil, since Thursday (Oct. 8). The Emergency Management Service reported in the early hours of Wednesday (14) that 35 towns have been hit by rainstorms. The forecast for all regions of the state is mild to heavy rain, with occasionally likely thunder and hail storms, especially in the west and north of the state.

There have been reports of landslides, lightnings, knocked down trees, as well as flooding throughout the state. So far, 938 people have been temporarily or permanently displaced. The number of homes affected by rain has reached 1,558. One person was reported to have been fatally struck by lightning.

The Emergency Management Service of Santa Catarina has reported that areas under landslide hazard are being monitored and disaster prevention campaigns carried out with local residents.
