An operation was carried out by the Federal Police on Friday (Sep. 30) in Feira de Santana to investigate electoral wrongdoing. Specialized prosecutors had requested a probe on a vote-buying scheme spearheaded by an evangelical pastor running for city councilor.
Police commissioner Fábio Araújo Marques, head of the Federal Police in Feira de Santana, said that a team had been assembled by the pastor to make lists so that church-goers could get prayers for their family members in exchange for electoral data. Those who refused to provide the information were “cursed.”
One of the places inspected by the law enforcement agents was the Igreja do Evangelho Quadrangular, where the scheme is alleged to have taken place.
