Twenty-eight Chilean football fans were detained for hooliganism in São Paulo in a game that saw Corinthians Sport Club beat Universidad de Chile 2-0 at a home match in the Conmebol Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday (April 5).

Police have reported the Chilean fans vandalized the stadium and threw objects at police officers and rival fans, including pieces of the seats. Riot police used batons to stop them.

Three policemen were injured. Four Chilean fans were identified and taken to Santa Marcelina hospital with injuries.

Corinthians' press office said it is assessing the damages to the stadium and will charge Universidad de Chile.

The Consulate of Chile said it awaits information from Brazilian police authorities to assist the detained Chileans.
