The Federal Police arrested Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of both the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) and the 2016 Rio Committee, for suspected involvement in a scheme where jury members were bribed in the selection of Rio de Janeiro as a the host city of the 2016 Olympic Games. He taken to prison Thursday morning (Oct. 5) from his home in Alto Leblon, an upscale district in south Rio.

The crackdown comes as part of Operation Unfair Play – Second Half-Time, which investigates the choice of Rio by the International Olympic Committee as the host city of the 2016 games. Leonardo Gryner, 2016 Rio Committee director-general of operations was also imprisoned.

They will be charged with corruption, money laundering, and criminal organization.
