Brazilian presidential hopeful Jair Bolsonaro, of the PSL, had an increase in body temperature (37.8ºC) due to bacteria reported as having low infectious capacity. No infection was found in his abdomen, according to a medical report released Friday (Sep. 28) by the Israelita Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo. The temperature rise was described as an “isolated event” and the candidate is likely to be discharged from hospital later this weekend.

Bolsonaro, admitted on September 7 in São Paulo, is being treated with antibiotics. He is reported to face no fever peaks and no alteration in imaging exams, and has shown good clinical evolution. He continues to be fed orally.

The candidate was stabbed during a campaign rally on September 6, in the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. After being assisted in the city, he was relocated to São Paulo at his family’s request the following morning.
