Military agents of the Israeli Defense Forces working on the tragedy in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, are expected to leave Brazil today (Jan. 31). The 136 agents were honored by a ceremony held by the Brazilian Army, the Military Fire Department reported.

The Israelis landed in Brazil on Sunday evening (27), bringing with them equipment to help search for people immersed in the mud that was unleashed when the mining waste dam of giant Vale ruptured.

On his Twitter account, President Jair Bolsonaro expressed gratitude for the work of the Israeli troops in rescuing victims.

“The brave Israeli troops, provided by the Prime Minister, are ending their mission in Brazil today. On behalf of the Brazilian people, I thank the state of Israel for the services provided in Brumadinho, MG, in partnership with our Armed Forced Warriors and the Fire Department,” he tweeted.

The president, still recuperating at São Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital, resumed the presidency yesterday (30).

Bolsonaro was not allowed by the doctors to receive authorities, as it could hinder his convalescence. The president, however, said he has worked while recovering, and talked about the first month of his administration.

“There are several lines of work in this first month of government, and there’s still a lot to be done. We’re on the right path. Our mission will be fulfilled! Brazil will occupy the position it deserves on the global stage!” he wrote on Twitter.

Bolsonaro is recovering from a seven-hour surgery carried out Monday (28) to rebuild his intestinal tract. He was discharged from the intensive care unit yesterday.
