Hotéis Rio, a representative of Rio de Janeiro’s hotel industry, reported that the average occupancy for hotels in the city is now above 74 percent of the city’s total of 50 thousand beds. The proportion is 11 percent higher than last year.

During the Carnival period—starting Saturday, March 2, and ending on Wednesday, March 6—over 500 thousand passengers will be at Rio de Janeiro’s central bus terminal at some point during Carnival.

For those planning to leave the city, nearly 9 thousand buses are to be used by 41 companies to meet the demand. Today (Mar. 1), boardings are estimated to add up to 44 thousand. Rio Hotéis press adviser Beatriz Lima reported that the most sought-after destinations are cities in the state’s Região dos Lagos, the Rio’s southern coast, the Região Serrana, and the Costa Verde, in addition to the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Espírito Santo—states with the highest number of likely Carnival revelers taking the bus to Rio.
