China's Embassy in Brazil is receiving applications for a short essay writing contest dubbed “Eu e a China” (“China and I”) until July 31. Held in partnership with China International Publishing Group, the award marks the 40th anniversary of China's opening policy.

The contest is reported to aim to deepen Brazil-China ties and “promote humanistic exchange.”

The authors of the two best pieces will be awarded a trip to China. Those who write the remaining 12 essays whose quality is attested will be awarded electronic devices.

Participants must write a text in Portuguese of up to 8 thousand words, describing their personal and familiar relationship with China after the introduction of the opening reform and their personal growth in parallel with the country's progress.

Only individual pieces will be accepted, and each contestant may only submit a single essay, which must be original and exclusive.

Winners are slated to be named in September.

Further information is available on the Chinese Embassy's website.
