With a budget of some $280 billion earmarked for science and technology, China is inviting young people from Brazil and other Latin American countries to work in research studies and advanced technology projects in the Asian country.

“China boasts the world’s most advanced scientific facilities, and young students interested in participating in this project will be granted a number of benefits,” said Gao Changlin, science and technology adviser at the Chinese embassy.

The scientists meeting the requirements to work in China will be paid a monthly $2 thousand for six months to a year. If they wish to continue in the country later on, researchers can apply to take part in scientific projects at universities and research centers.

Hundreds of Latin American researchers have received invitations to do research in China over the last years—most of them Brazilians. Applications can already be submitted. Candidates must be up to 45 years old, have at least 5 years of experience as a researcher, or be a PhD holder.

Strides

In 2016, China attained a leading position in technological innovation. Chinese inventors ranked first in the number of patent requests, with over 1.2 million projects and 322 thousand contrivances.

Brazil was the first developing country to forge strategic ties with the Asian giant. CBERS comes as part of this partnership, a deal signed in 1980 which allows the launch of satellites to monitor the Brazilian territory and prevent environmental disasters.
