The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, Apex-Brasil, received the prestigious United Nations United Nations Investment Promotion Awards 2018. The ceremony took place at the World Investment Forum, held throughout this week in Geneva, Switzerland.

The agency was acknowledged for its Brazil Auto Parts – Investment in Trusted Partners project. The initiative is a partnership between Apex-Brasil and Sindipeças, Brazil’s union for the auto parts industry, directed at the collaboration between Brazilian and foreign firms with investment projects in Brazil.

The project aims to help meeting Sustainable Development Goal number nine from the UN 2013 agenda (to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation) by encouraging links between Brazilian and foreign businesses exchanging technology and know-how, with a view to opening doors for the modernization of local companies and to cultivating a global mindset.

Win-win situation

International companies benefit by joining the market with the support of a local partner, as they know how to navigate within the domestic market, and could gain access to market opportunities otherwise unreachable. In this connection, the project’s innovative approach provides a win-win situation for both Brazilian and foreign organizations.

“Taking into consideration that Brazil’s car industry represents 22 percent of its industrial GDP and accounts for over 1.3 million jobs, this project offers direct support to the current econoy and the future growth of Brazilian industry. I’m confident that the project will help the sector grow even further,” Apex-Brasil President Roberto Jaguaribe declared.

Brazil’s auto sector is at the avant-garde of innovative sustainable auto technology. A case in point is Brazil’s flexible-fuel system, which allows vehicles to run on ethanol and gasoline—a model that has become widespread in the country—not to mention the world’s first electronic truck for urban areas. Auto production centers have wrought major changes in Brazil, which include jobs with higher pay and partnerships with universities for research and development projects and engineering, raising the bar for production to international levels.

Apex-Brasil is expected to attend the forum throughout the week to promote sustainable investment in Brazil.
