Brazil and Paraguay will resume talks on the construction of two bridges between the two countries. This will be among the topics to be discussed during the visit of Paraguay’s President Mario Abdo Benítez, on March 12, Brazil’s Foreign Ministry reported.
Each country is expected to be in charge of one of the bridges. The Brazilian one is likely to start being built this year, and should be concluded in three years.
One of the bridges will connect the city of Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná state, to Puerto Presidente Franco, in Paraguay. This one will fall under Brazil’s responsibility and aims to ease the traffic on Friendship Bridge, which links Foz do Iguaçu and Ciudad del Este.
The other bridge, Paraguay’s, will connect the city of Porto Murtinho, in Mato Grosso do Sul, to Carmelo Peralta. The goal here is to facilitate access to the Pacific ocean. Each bridge is estimated to cost $70 million.
