During the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between his country and Brazil, Ambassador Amad Hamood Salim Al Abri said the Sultanate of Oman “is on the list of advanced-class Arab commercial partners” with the Brazilian government and executives. From January to October 2019, Brazil–Oman trade added up to $921 million, up 53 percent from the same time span in 2018, as per data from the Arab–Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. “Next year, we hope that both countries sign various bilateral deals boosting mutual cooperation,” the ambassador declared.

Al Abri listed a number of recent achievements in the sultanate, like meeting 14 of the 17 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals and the rise of women in society. In Oman, women account for 41 percent of the work force in the public sector. This year, the country climbed ten positions on the ranking for ease of doing business, compiled by the World Bank.

Oman’s embassy in Brasília celebrated the Arab country’s national holiday with a dinner on Wednesday evening (Nov. 20). The official date is November 18, which marks the beginning of the Renaissance of Oman, with the rise to power of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said in 1970. It is also the monarch’s birthday.

In attendance were Sidney Romero, director of the Middle East department of Brazil’s Foreign Ministry; Ibrahim Alzeben, deacon of the Council of Arab Ambassadors in Brazil and ambassador of Palestine; Rubens Hannun, president of the Arab–Brazilian Chamber of Commerce; and hundreds of diplomats and politicians.
