The National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES) forecasts the circulation of $132 billion in the Brazilian economy by 2025 through initiatives related to the Internet of Things.

The number can be found in a study entitled Internet of Things: a Plan of Action for Brazil, sponsored by the BNDES and conducted by a consortium led by consultancy McKinsey, with the collaboration of the Telecommunications Research and Development Center Foundation (CpqD Foundation) and law firm Pereira Neto Macedo.

The survey will provide the basis for the drafting of public policies and measures for the Internet of Things in Brazil from 2018 to 2022.

The Internet of Things is a concept in technology where routine objects communicate and interact with each other autonomously on the internet, making an impact on people's everyday lives.

Health care, major cities, the industry, and the countryside are the main areas covered by the plan. One of the proposals aims to reduce waiting lines for assistance, operation costs and hospital infections, among other indicators, through technology.

The document also suggests the use of the Internet of Things in the improvement of the monitoring of people with chronic diseases at public hospitals and primary care units.

The study also shows the need for an increase in the supply and quality of training programs on the Internet of Things through scholarships and projects demonstrating the benefits of this technology, for instance. The introduction of rules to deal with “the increasing risks in information security” is among the suggestion made in the text.
