The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies has officially notified President Dilma Rousseff that he accepted an impeachment petition against her for allegedly violating fiscal accountability laws.

The notification was sent to the Minister of the Government Secretariat of the Presidency, Ricardo Berzoini, on Thursday (Dec. 3). According to the president, Cunha sent a notice with an enclosed copy of the impeachment petition filed by legal scholars Hélio Bicudo, Miguel Reale Jr., and Janaína Paschoal, in which they cited government decrees enacted in 2015 that authorized additional expenditures of $660 million.

Totaling 3,717 pages, the documents were filed with the Presidential Office and the Government Secretariat.
