Temer says it is not time to arouse dissent and intrigue among Brazilians

Vice-President Michel Temer said Saturday (Mar. 12) “it is not the time to divide Brazilians, stir up people's feelings or erect walls.” Rather, in today's times of severe political and economic crisis, he says, it is time to “build bridges.”

During his speech at the PMDB convention, Temer once again argued for national unity and dialogue between supporters of all opinions. “The PMDB has always harbored diverse points of view, but they converge whenever it is necessary to take care of the country.”

He stated that the party will soon come up with a plan for ensuring and expanding social advancements and opportunities for all. “They're plans aimed at restoring the trust of productive sectors, raising employment levels. We must not let ourselves be defeated and lose our trust in the future.”

According to Temer, one must not “ignore that the country is facing a most serious political and economic crisis.” “The recession and unemployment are real and should be addressed by stimulating the private sector, raising competitiveness, and implementing adjustment measures,” he added.

The PMDB is the main party in the government's coalition, but is currently divided between remaining supportive of the government or splitting with Rousseff's administration. Temer is expected to take back his position as the party's national leader.
