In a statement made today (Feb. 22), President Michel Temer said the approval of the appointment of Alexandre de Moraes as a justice at the Supreme Court (STF) shows the recognition of his skills for the job.

Through Alexandre Parola, spokesperson for the presidency, Temer said that Moraes will fulfill his duties with impartiality and autonomy.

“The president reiterates his conviction that Alexandre de Moraes will make a meaningful contribution to the fulfillment of justice in Brazil during his mandate, ever founded by the same autonomy, impartiality, and resolute attachment to the dispositions in our Federal Constitution which have always been part and parcel of his personal trajectory,” said the spokesperson.

The Senate's full house confirmed with 55 against 13 the victory of the president's appointee to take the seat left vacant after the death of late Justice Teori Zavascki in a plane crash early this year.

The new justice should receive some 7.5 thousand cases who were previously under the responsibility of his predecessor.
