About 30% of Brazil's senators are targeted by probes ordered by Supreme Court Justice Edson Fachin in connection with the plea bargain statements heard from former executives of Odebrecht construction company, a former contractor of Petrobras, as part of the “Car Wash” corruption scandal. This includes the current and the former president of the Senate, Eunício Oliveira and Renan Calheiros, both of whom are members of the ruling PMDB party.

Fachin has upheld Prosecutor-General Rodrigo Janot's requests to investigate 24 of the 81 senators. With seven members of its upper house bench targeted, the PMDB is the party of the largest number of senators to be investigated, followed by the PSDB (six senators), and the PT (four senators). The PP and the PSB each have two senators on the list, and PCdoB, PTC, and PSD, one each.

The cases will now be forwarded to the Prosecutor-General's Office (PGR) and Federal Police (PF) to begin the investigations. Besides hearings of the suspects' statements, wiretaps and tax disclosures may be ordered.
