The Brazilian Association of Federal Forensic Experts issued a statement on Sunday (May 21) slamming the Prosecutor-General's Office (PGR) for not examining the audio recording of a conversation between business mogul Joesley Batista and Brazil's President Michel Temer before admiting it as evidence for filing a probe on the president and in the plea bargaining deal prosecutors signed with Joesley, his brother Wesley Batista, and executives of J&F, the holding that controls

The talk was taped in March at an evening meeting at Jaburu palace, Temer's official residence in Brasília, without the president knowing they were being recorded. In the tape, Joesley Batista said he had links with one prosecutor and two judges who were tipping him off about Operation Greenfield, a graft investigation on public pension funds.

The conversation prompted the Prosecutor-General to ask the Supreme Court to investigate the president. Temer has sought to stop the probe saying he did not commit any crime and alleging the recording had been doctored and was admitted as evidence without prior examination.

The forensic experts' association condemned the admission of unexamined plea bargaining evidence. “It is unacceptable that no expert analysis of the exposed material was ordered when the country has an Official Federal Forensic Service with the best multimedia evidence experts, allowing a criminal event of such magnitude to be presented without appropriate scientific validation.”
