Brazil’s President Michel Temer greeted left-wing Andrés Manuel López Obrador for winning the presidential elections in Mexico. On his Twitter account Temer wrote today (Jul. 2) that the friendly ties between the two nations are “strong and long-lasting,” and reiterated his willingness to work to bring the two countries closer together.

The vote in Mexico took place yesterday (1), and, according to preliminary data, Lopez Obrador, referred to as AMLO, was elected with 53% of the ballot. The total of votes he garnered is larger than what the second and third places—of the two parties governing the country for over a hundred years—managed to muster.
