OEA observers return to Brazil for run-off vote

The Election Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the Brazilian elections returned this week to the country to monitor the second round of vote. The experts will travel to 11 states as well as the Federal District.

In addition, six people will observe the election overseas in the cities of Buenos Aires, Washington DC, Montreal, Paris, Santiago (Chile), and City of Mexico. The group, led by former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla, is formed by 30 specialists.

The mission observed the first round of Brazil’s elections on October 7, and will also monitor the main aspects of the run-off vote.

After the elections, a report with the conclusions and recommendations will be drafted, which should address electoral organization and technology, campaign funding, the media and freedom of speech, the political participation of women, electoral courts, indigenous and black people.
