Brazil’s President-Elect Jair Bolsonaro said during a meeting with Supreme Court Chief Justice Dias Toffoli today (Nov. 7) that “no one can govern [a country like Brazil] by themselves.” He called for the union between the three government branches—Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. “It’s not me—we can’t make a mistake.”
Bolsonaro pledged to work alongside the Judiciary and Legislative branches in order to enhance the laws against violence and crime. “Brazil has enormous challenges to be overcome, but we have the potential to face them.”
Toffoli stressed the need for a republican pact. “On behalf of the Supreme Court, we are honored to hear that you will maintain dialog [with the other institutions]. I’m sure this gesture of respect for the Constitution and the institutions renews democracy,” he declared.
