Brazil’s President-Elect Jair Bolsonaro stayed home in Rio de Janeiro and welcomed China Ambassador Li Jinzhang. He expressed the new government’s interest in keeping business with the country. Bolsonaro had already stated he does plan to make any ideological distinction regarding commerce.

A meeting with Italy’s Ambassador to Brazil Antonio Bernardini happened next. A descendant of Italians, the president-elect has pledged to extradite Italian national Cesare Battisti to his country of origin after taking office. The political activist has been accused of terrorism and was allowed to stay in Brazil as a refugee by former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Transition

Congressman Onyx Lorenzoni, Bolsonaro’s extraordinary minister, tasked with leading the president-elect’s team, is meeting today (Nov. 5) with Chief-of-Staff Eliseu Padilha. The engagement marks the beginning of the transition team’s agenda in Brasília.

The members of the transition team are expected to be unveiled Tuesday (6), when Jair Bolsonaro will land in Brasília for the first time after being elected.

On his social media today, Jair Bolsonaro wrote that his team will be given access to government data for the first time sometime this week. “We’re taking a big step this week as the government transition group starts its work, collecting information for the restructuring of Brazil,” he pointed out.
