Brazil’s future Economy Minister Paulo Guedes canceled his trip to Europe, where he was expected to attend the event Great Challenges in Iberian America, due to an infection. His press advisers said the economist has high fever as a result of a viral infection in his respiratory tract, and was advised by doctors to rest.

Since flights were also recommended against by doctors, Guedes should stay in his home in Rio de Janeiro.

At the event, held by the Fundación Internacional para la Libertad in Madrid, Guedes was going to participate in a panel entitled Brazil – Main Standpoints of the New Government, alongside future Justice and Public Security Minister Sergio Moro, with foundation chairman Vargas Llosa as mediator.

The original plan was to use the trip as an opportunity to unveil the economic agenda of the coming administration before major investors interested in Brazil and the press. All engagements have been put off.
