The Federal Prosecution Service (MPF) held a public hearing on Participatory Olympic Legacy in Rio on Monday (May 22) with the aim of engaging the society in taking stock of the Olympic legacy and deciding on the purpose and use for the facilities built for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Federal Prosecutor Leandro Mitidieri said the residents of the areas where Olympic facilities are located should be listened to by the authorities responsible for the Olympic legacy.
According to the Prosecution Service, the legacy was not adequately planned, and the plans have not been followed. As an example, Rio's municipal government had not been due to hand over four arenas—the velodrome, the Olympic tennis center, and Carioca 1 and 2 arenas—to the central government, which according to prosecutors found these facilities in poor condition.
