The move is aimed at the Amazon in both Brazil and French Guiana, and comes as part of the Action Plan on the Bioeconomy and the Protection of Tropical Forests, signed by Brazil and France.
The announcement was made in New York this week by Banco do Brasil in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank and adds to the Amazon Impact Movement, signed during the UN Global Compact in Brazil.
Government authorities met in Belém, Pará state, for a session entitled Dialogues on Amazon Bioeconomy: Inclusive Rural Transformation. The debate is part of the Amazon Dialogues initiative to devise proposals for the region, to be presented at the international summit on Aug. 8–9.
The BNDES has stipulated that the bioeconomy projects must focus on community-based management of native forests in the wood, vegetable oil, and Brazil nut value chains.
