The seleção did start off ahead, but underperformed at the Metropolitano stadium and were beaten 2–1 by Colombia in a match in the fifth round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
This marks the fourth continental championship for the Brazilian team, who previously claimed victory in 2017 (in partnership with Audax), 2019, and 2021.
