According to the Head of the Federal Supreme Court Luiz Fux, Brazil´s democracy has one of the most efficient, reliable, and modern electoral systems in the world.
The head of the country’s highest court also stated that respect for the Constitution, the law, and freedom of press must stand above any electoral outcome.
Justice Luiz Fux said, “After a challenging year, democracy has won, as it convinced Brazilian of its important role in the exercise of its liberties and equality.”
The defendants were sentenced by the Jury of Porto Alegre last week, but were granted preventive habeas corpus granted by a judge of the Court of Justice.
Early in the plenary session, Fux read the address in which he declared that the institutional criticism on the Court’s work must not be confused with “narratives aimed at discrediting the Supreme Court and its members, as those that have been made widespread by the head of the nation.”
