The breach of mining giant Vale’s dam in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais state, took the lives of 272 people. Three are yet to be located. Efforts have surpassed 1,400 days.
On Feb. 8, a dam overflowed. The structure did not break down, nor were there any fatalities, but a highway was affected by the mud and was blocked for almost two days.
The patient was a 33-year-old man with comorbidities who lived in Minas Gerais state. He was hospitalized in capital Belo Horizonte and passed away Saturday.
According to the bulletin released by the Ministry of Health so far there are 8,340 confirmed cases of monkeypox in Brazil. Another 4,586 are under follow-up.
Brazil’s Regional Development Minister said funds are being used to clean up streets; purchase food, blankets, and medications; make shelters available; restore energy; and speed up urban mobility works.
