According to the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), the rise in the minimum wage will benefit 59.3 million workers.
The adjustment to BRL 1,412 is based on the 3.85 percent inflation rate, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) over the 12 months ending in November.
It considers 5.81% inflation plus a real increase of 1.5%. Today, the minimum wage is BRL 1,212. The measure is yet to be approved by representatives and senators.
The minimum wage was adjusted according to the formula that provided for the growth of GDP of 2 previous years, plus the official inflation rate of the previous year.
Budgetary estimates include a 2.5% increase in the GDP, minimum wage at BRL 1,294 and a primary deficit of BRL 65.91 billion for the public accounts of the Central Government.
