During the six days of parades by the Gold Series, the Special Group, and the children's samba schools, the Marques de Sapucaí Avenue saw around 120,000 people per day.

The move to postpone Carnival until April had been announced in January by Rio and São Paulo. The dates reflect the authorities' attempt to take advantage of the extended holiday on April 21.
