The study was conducted by 2.7 thousand volunteers, who collected data every month from Jan. to Dec. 2022. Altogether, the research is said to encompass 74 municipalities across 16 states where the biome can be found.
The biome has been assailed by a decline in water availability and the lowering of the water table, posing serious economic, social and environmental risks. The issue is denounced in a letter to be sent to the 2023 UN Water Conference.
