Rio de Janeiro – Last night representatives of Rio police (“PMs”) and firemen voted to suspend their strike until after carnival when new assemblies will take place to debate the situation. The Rio police strike began on Friday, January 10, while a similar strike had been underway in Bahia for over ten days. That strike has now also ended.
A number of leaders of the strike movements in both Bahia and Rio have been jailed and the focus of the police and firemen has now shifted to demanding their immediate release.
