President Dilma Rousseff decided to replace George Hilton with the current National Sports Secretariat Ricardo Leyser, who has been in the ministry for years. He is the main negotiator in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and is to take office on an interim basis.

Two weeks ago, Hilton changes political parties in order to remain a cabinet member, after the Brazilian Republican Party (PRB), to which he belonged, announced its split with the government.

According to the presidential palace, his departure had been a request made by the minister himself. In a note, the government announced that Rousseff thanked Hilton for his “work and dedication.”

On Tuesday (Mar. 29), Minister Jaques Wagner, of the president's personal office, said, after the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB) walked away from the ruling coalition, that the government would “realign” with leaders from other parties in search of support battling the impeachment proceedings against the president.
