TV Brasil, Brazil’s public TV broadcaster, announced Monday (Jun. 23) it has joined Global Doc, an international alliance that brings together public broadcasters from several countries. The announcement was made during Sunny Side of the Doc, an event held in France.

On the same occasion, TV Brasil and France Télévisions launched a public call for documentary co-production projects aimed at independent producers from both countries.

Antonia Pellegrino, director for content and programming at Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), spoke at the official opening of the event, which is taking place in the French city of La Rochelle. She pointed out that independent productions are one of the pillars of TV Brasil’s programming.

“In the last two years we have become a relevant window in Brazilian audiovisuals. With TV Brasil joining Global Doc, our aim is to guarantee premium-quality content for free-to-air television audiences and to reaffirm our partnership with the audiovisual sector by taking Brazilian content to the world, thus contributing to the development of our creative economy,” she declared.

Brazil–France

The initiative also marks the strengthening of cultural ties between France and Brazil in the year in which the two nations celebrate 200 years of relations. Recently, the ministers of culture of Brazil and France—Margareth Menezes and Rachida Dati—signed a deal in Paris to stimulate collaboration in the most diverse areas of culture and artistic creation.

Call for proposals

The call seeks proposals for the making of a documentary dealing with the environmental issue and the restoration of ties between humans and nature, lasting up to 90 minutes. Proposals are required to involve cooperation between a Brazilian and a French production company from the outset.

The selected project will be funded by the Audiovisual Sector Fund (FSA) through Brazil’s film authority Ancine and France Télévisions.

A jury made up of representatives from France Télévisions and TV Brasil will select the five best projects, which will be presented during LatAm Rio in March 2026, when the winner will be revealed.
