“The Secret Agent” ends campaign without an Oscar
Despite high expectations and an acclaimed international campaign, the Brazilian film The Secret Agent ended its run at the 2026 Oscars ceremony on Sunday night (Mar. 15) without bagging any awards.

Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, the film had been nominated in four categories – Best Film, Best International Feature Film, Best Actor (Wagner Moura), and Best Casting (a category introduced this year).
In the Best International Feature Film category, the Brazilian entry was beaten by the Norwegian Sentimental Value, by Joachim Trier.
In the Best Actor category, Wagner Moura, who was acclaimed by critics for his role as Professor Marcelo, saw the award go to Michael B. Jordan for Ryan Coogler’s gothic horror Sinners.
In the Best Casting category, the award went to One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, which also won the Best Picture award.
Before the Oscar ceremony, The Secret Agent had already cemented its international standing at the Golden Globes. The Brazilian production won in the Best Non-English Language Film category, while Wagner Moura took home the trophy for Best Actor in a Drama Film.
