The balance of trade posted a $ 1.996 billion surplus in October. The result is the best for the month since 2011, when the surplus stood at $2.362 billion. The year-to-date balance stands at a positive $ 12.244 billion, the highest performance for the period of January to October since 2012, when the surplus was $17.345 billion.

The figures were disclosed today (Nov. 3) by the Ministry of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade.

The positive balance for October refers to the $16.049 billion in exports and the $14.053 billion in imports. From January to October, exports totaled $160.5 billion and imports reached 148.3 billion.

The government expects the balance to close out 2015 with a surplus. A reason for this is the fact that imports have been declining in a faster pace than exports.
