Dollar hikes and a lower income have brought the expenditures of Brazilians in international travel down 62.5% in January, a vacation month, according to Central Bank figures released today (Feb. 23). In January, the amount added up to $840 million, compared to $2.239 billion registered in the same month last year.

Despite the aforementioned decline,  the income of foreigners in Brazil surged 14.44% in the same period—$650 million last month, against the $568 million observed in January, 2015.

These figures bring the deficit in the travel account to $190 million in the first month of the year.
